Perched at an altitude of 2473 m, the Auberge de l'Hospice offers a comfortable and warm welcome in the fabulous natural setting of the Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard. A new team welcomes you in a completely renovated building, under the direction of the Biselx-Abbet family.
Open every summer from June 1st to October 15th, the Auberge complements and supports the hospitality of the Canons of the Great Saint Bernard Pass, these religious people who have been welcoming travellers on the Pass for almost a thousand years. The Auberge de l'Hospice offers 30 rooms with two or three beds, all equipped with private bathroom and WiFi. We also welcome groups and seminars.
Our restaurant offers fine cuisine based on local and seasonal products as well as local Valaisan dishes. The house speciality is the 100% Valais fondue. As well as raclette on reservation. As for dessert, you can, for example, enjoy a perfect ice-cream with Génépi du Val Ferret. In our souvenir shop, you will find chocolate, the famous St-Bernard plush dogs, articles from the famous "Via Francigena" as well as a range of monastic products.
A paradise for hikes among the marmots, this border pass between Switzerland and Italy is also an important heritage site. Opposite the hostel, the door to the Hospice is always open: there is a baroque church and the treasure room in a completely new layout. The Museum traces the entire history of the Great St. Bernard, from the Roman remains to the plants and animals of the mountains. And don't miss a visit to the Barry Foundation's St. Bernard dog breeding farm: the famous breed of avalanche dogs was born here in Col. You can even book a walk with one of these brave dogs!
